Councillors back plans for constitutional conference
Orkney Islands Council looks set to host an island conference on constitutional reform with their Shetland and Western Isles counterparts.
At yesterday’s meeting of the OIC policy and resources committee, members agreed that a conference should be held in Orkney to consider the opportunities and challenges that the referendum outcome will have for isles communities.
Although the finer details of the event have yet to be decided, the report before the committee said: “A conference would provide a platform for local, regional and national figures to contribute towards the constitutional debate and its relevance to Orkney and the three island groups.”
