Creel consultation launched
Marine Scotland has launched its long awaited consultation into creel numbers in the prawn and lobster/crab sectors.
There have been calls for creel restrictions in some areas for some time. Questions being asked of fishermen include whether the number of creels used by individual crab and lobster vessels should be capped; should there be a single maximum limit irrespective of boat length; should a limit be set based on length of boat; should parlours be banned or restricted and should quotas be introduced to the crab and lobster industry.
The consultation is open until October 30.
The Orkney Fisheries Association is to hold a meeting early in October to submit a collective association response to Marine Scotland. Fishermen can also respond individually to the consultation online at www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2012/08/7352/0.
