CT scanning facility update
Following the decision to back an interim measure to provide CT scanning facilities at the Balfour Hospital, NHS Orkney board members have received an update on progress.
The board heard that a project team would be led by consultant surgeon, Dr Michael Dohrn, assisted by Suzanne Lawrence, a radiographer with CT scanning experience.
NHS Orkney finance director Gerry O’Brien also said that the equipment suppliers would be invited to Orkney in the new year to brief the project team on planning for and supporting the development, which will cost an estimated £340,000 per year.
NHS Orkney chief executive, Cathie Cowan, said she was “delighted” to be bringing the equipment to Orkney in advance of the new hospital, scheduled for completion in five-years time.
