Delays possible on diverted Old Finstown Road route

The Orkney Islands Council (OIC) are advising motorists of the potential for delays in the coming days on the diversion route currently in place at Old Finstown

Road and Zion’s Loan while the main road is closed at Finstown for resurfacing works.

A large delivery of stone destined for Cursiter Quarry is due to arrive at Hatston today, Thursday, lunchtime – the delivery was delayed from last week due to weather and shipping logistics.

As a result, lorries will be running back and forth on the diverted route to the quarry from around 2pm today until Sunday, possibly into Monday of next week, which may lead to delays for other motorists.

OIC would ask that motorists take extra care when approaching the vicinity of the quarry and be extra vigilant for vehicles manoeuvring in the area.
The council apologise for the potential disruption this may cause.
