Deputy first minister’s campaigning visit to the county

Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, is visiting the county today as part of a series of campaigning visits to Scotland’s island groups.

On Tuesday, Ms Sturgeon was answering questions from “floating voters” on the crossing from Aberdeen to Lerwick, before spending the day campaigning in Shetland.

In Orkney today, as part of her visit, the deputy first minister will be participating in a question-and-answer session in the Orkney Theatre, Kirkwall, at 7pm this evening.

According to the organisers — Yes Orkney — Ms Sturgeon will highlight the case for a Yes vote, and the opportunities that independence will bring to the people of Orkney.

Yes Orkney’s Robert Leslie said that news of her visit had given a focus to the final weeks of the local campaign.

“We’ve been campaigning for over two years now but know that there are still many undecided folk in Orkney, so it is brilliant to have Nicola Sturgeon visiting at the point when so many will be making up their minds where to put their cross on September 18.”
