Orkney’s netballers suffered double heartbreak this afternoon in Lerwick as both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ sides were defeated by Shetland in the 35th annual inter-county clash.

The ‘A’ sides took to the court first, and Orkney, under the captaincy of Julie Campbell, went in at the end of the first and second quarters just one goal behind at 14-13 and 27-26. However, Shetland extended their lead in the final quarters to win the match 58-46, and gain revenge for last year’s defeat in Kirkwall.

Orkney’s ‘B’ side, captained by Erica Tait, took to the court at 3pm, and led 10-11 after the first quarter, before managing to extend their lead going in at half-time 19-24 ahead. Shetland fought back however to lead 38-32 after the third quarter, and the match ended in heartbreaking fashion for the ladies, with Shetland winning by one single point 38-37.
