EMEC shrinks by five posts after restructuring exercise
A restructuring exercise at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has seen the Stromness-based facility shrink by five posts.
Announcing the restructuring in June, EMEC’s managing director, Neil Kermode, said it was to needed to ensure that its marine energy test facilities can continue to respond to the wave and tidal industry’s changing landscape and market demands.
He said: “We are all operating in a constrained financial landscape, and funding for R&D is tight, so it is of utmost importance that EMEC remains dynamic and can react quickly to the market as it changes. The restructure focuses on how we can continue to meet the needs of the industry.”
According to the company, the restructuring process saw the following impact on staffing:
- Pre restructuring – 25 FTEs
- Post restructuring – 19.8 FTEs
- Compulsory redundancies – 4.4 FTEs
- Voluntary redundancy – 1 FTE
- Left during consultation period – 1 FTE
- Job share – 2 FTEs reduced to 1.2 FTEs
A spokeswoman confirmed today that two new posts have also been created and are about to be advertised.
