EMEC win Rushlight Marine and Hydro Energy Award
The European Marine Energy Centre won the ‘Marine and Hydro Energy’ award at the Rushlight Awards 2016-17.
Now in their 10th year, the Rushlight Awards aim to support and promote all the latest clean technologies, innovations, initiatives and deployment projects for businesses and other organisations throughout the UK, Ireland and internationally.
Accepting the accolade at the awards ceremony at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, London last night, Thursday, EMEC’s client relationship and marketing manager, Eileen Linklater, said: “It is an honour to be recognised for our role in facilitating innovation, amongst some of the most pioneering cleantech companies around, at a time when UK government commitment to supporting innovation is ramping up. At the Rushlight event we heard Nick Hurd, Minister for State at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy emphasise the importance of innovation in creating an economy that works for everyone. The advances in marine energy that we’ve seen at EMEC demonstrate how wave and tidal energy research, development and innovation can create skilled jobs in coastal communities, as well as a nationwide supply chain – a clear fit with the government’s new Industrial Strategy.
“It was great to see and hear the breadth of energy innovation which is taking place all around us, with the potential to bring about transformational change in energy systems. With the first machines tested at EMEC now deployed in the first commercial tidal arrays in Scotland and Canada, marine energy’s place as an important part of the UK’s future energy mix and a valuable export opportunity is closer than ever.”
Attending the awards were organisations leading the way in clean technology innovation and sustainable solution deployment, investors, advisers, specialist and general media, trade associations and government departments. The awards party followed the very successful Rushlight Show, where EMEC exhibited and presented as a guest of InnovateUK.
