Fine art degree show to open this weekend

Opening this Saturday is the UHI Orkney’s 2024 Fine Art degree show.

Featuring the imagination and artistic skill of two final year students, Anna Charlotta Gardiner and Caitlin Brodie, the exhibition will be held in the art studios at UHI Orkney and run until Saturday June 15.

Anna Charlotta Gardiner began her artistic journey with the NC Portfolio course (now NC Art and Design) in 2015 before moving on to the BA Fine Art degree programme.

Her final showcase is a culmination of years of experimentation, featuring 2D and 3D collages, and otherworldly costumes for performances filmed in the Orkney landscape.

A highlight includes the use of natural and recycled media, notably fur from her dog!

Caitlin Brodie’s approach has been characterised by broad experimentation resulting in unpredictable outcomes.

Her work for the degree show encompasses a diverse array of media from intricate crochet pieces to expressive drawings and sculptures.

UHI Orkney invite enthusiasts, students, and members of the community to celebrate the achievements of these emerging artists.

The exhibition is open to the public in the art studio at UHI Orkney, Kirkwall, daily, 9am—4pm, from Saturday 8 until June 15 (closed Sunday June 9).

A special opening reception featuring live music and refreshments will be held on Friday, June 7, from 6pm to 8pm.

If you are interested in the creative industries there’s still time to apply for a course starting in August or September at UHI Orkney: www.orkney.uhi.ac.uk/courses
