First XV suffer league defeat
Orkney Rugby Club’s First XV suffered an agonising loss to near rivals Caithness at Picky this afternoon.
The visitors came from behind to score a late try and win 13-11.
Two first-half penalties put Orkney 6-0 up at half-time and the hosts continued to enjoy the bulk of possession and pressure in the second half.
But Caithness drew it level at 6-6 with two quickfire penalties, before taking advantage of some uncharacteristic slack passing from Orkney to go 13-6 ahead with a converted try late on.
Orkney replied with a try with five minutes to go, but failed to convert and Caithness hung on to claim a win that puts a dent in Orkney’s title hopes.
