Five star accolades for Orkney tourist properties

Balfour Castle in Shapinsay, and the Old Granary and Puffin Quoy in Orphir have been awarded VisitScotland’s highest five star accolade.

The castle – recently refurbished to a family country house hotel, which boasts top class facilities and a world class chef – was awarded the five star grading under VisitScotland’s  “exclusive use” category.

Providing visitors with a self catering option within another historic setting, the Old Granary and Puffin Quoy is a converted granary and has been refurbished to retain original features such as flagstone floors and a peat burning stove.
