Food safety – council receives top ranking
Orkney Islands Council has the best record in Scotland for ensuring businesses comply with food hygiene standards.
A study conducted by the consumer group Which? put OIC in first place north of the border for overall performance on food safety – and in 26th place among 395 local authorities surveyed across the UK.
Councillor James Stockan, chairman of the council’s development and infrastructure committee, said: “This is an excellent achievement by our environmental health team.
“A lot of effort goes into working with a wide range of food businesses to ensure they operate to the highest standards. I am pleased that this has been recognised and highlighted by a well-respected organisation like Which?”
