Funding granted to local Citizens Advice Bureau
Orkney Islands Council’s Policy and Resources committee have made the decision to grant a one-off sum of £11,371 to the Orkney Citizens advice Bureau (CAB).
With the meeting of the committee calling on Tuesday, November 26, the council chamber heard that the level of demand for the services offered by the local CAB has increased significantly, particularly in relation to the impact of changes in Welfare Reform. The committee members also heard that the running of Orkney CAB services exceeded the level of funding in the period 2012 to 2013.
Discussing the awarding of the funds, OIC Convener, Steven Heddle said: “The local Citizens Advice Bureau provides a lot of advice to people which the council would have to provide themselves were the organisation not available.”
The CAB provides local people with free, confidential, independent and impartial advice and information on a range of issues including consumer issues, immigration and housing.
