Green light for Stenness turbines
Planning permission has been granted for two small-scale wind turbines at Teeoquoy, Stenness, despite concerns about the impact of the development on the World Heritage Site.
A report before the OIC’s planning committee explained how the applicant had reduced the size of the turbines from 18 metres to 12 metres and amended their proposed location, following concerns raised. It was the view of planning officials that the objections had been taken into consideration, but were considered to be “of insufficient weight to warrant a refusal.”
Councillors voted, 10-2, in favour of granting permission.
