Green light for Westerbister salmon farm

Planning permission for a new salmon farm, off the Tongue of Westerbister, in Holm, was granted by the OIC planning committee this morning.

The Scottish Sea Farms site will, said the company, create six new jobs locally and significantly increase production of the quality product farmed in Orkney waters.

The Westerbister site will consist of 16 100-metre cages, with consent for 1,791 tonnes of salmon production, making it the second largest Scottish Sea Farms site in Orkney.
