Guernsey to host Island Games for record third time
Guernsey will host the 2021 Island Games — the first island member to host the event three times.
The decision, made at the International Island Games Association’s (IIGA) recent AGM in Gotland — the host of next year’s Games — was met with delight from chair of Guernsey’s organising committee Dame Mary Perkins.
”Guernsey is proud to have been selected to host the 2021 Island Games. The island has twice been a former host of the Games, once in 1983 and again in 2003. Many of the facilities required are already built and are of an international standard. We are looking forward to fostering and encouraging friendship with all our fellow island communities.”
Also at the AGM, 2019 host island Gibraltar announced two additional sports would be included in the Games in three years time — beach volleyball and road cycling.
