The Hamnavoe arrived in Stromness earlier this morning after almost 24 hours at sea.

The NorthLink vessel left Scrabster just after 10am yesterday and was due in around midday.

However, after an unsuccessful attempt to berth in Stromness yesterday afternoon, with assistance from an Orkney Islands Council tug, she then made for the shelter of Scapa Flow to wait for the weather to subside and an opportunity to dock.

As the day went on, passengers were informed that they would be spending the night at sea and the ship would try berthing again in the morning.

A NorthLink spokesperson confirmed the vessel docked in Stromness shortly after 9am this morning, meaning passengers spent almost 24 hours onboard what is usually a one-and-a-half hour crossing.
