Hatston marine renewables project contractor announced

McLaughlin & Harvey have been confirmed as the contractors for work on Orkney Islands Council’s £8m Hatston pier redevelopment.

The project will see the county’s largest deep water pier extended northwards by 160m and is part of the council’s ‘three port’ strategy to provide marine renewables infrastructure in Orkney.

A total of £3.4m funding towards the capital cost of the project was awarded from the European Regional Development Fund programme in January 2011.

The development will include a newly formed quay and workspace area to support marine energy traffic and associated industrial activities.
