Hatston Park speed limit to go back before councillors

The issue of a reduced speed limit around the Hatston Park/Sunnybank area will go back before islands councillors next month.

A vote at last week’s meeting of the OIC’s development and infrastructure committee was tied — with five councillors voting for a 50mph speed limit and five voting for the speed limit to be brought down to 40mph, in line with the wishes of the Hatston Park area.

With a tied vote, the decision fell to the committee chairman, Councillor James Stockan, who, following council protocal, opted to go with the recommended introduction of a 50mph limit.

Following a petition by councillors, the matter will now be brought up at the next meeting of the full council on July 7.
