HMS Royal Oak — 100 Years
The annual Celebrating Scapa Flow programme returns tonight, with a special focus on the centenary of the commissioning of HMS Royal Oak.
Talks will be held this evening, by one of the country’s leading maritime historians, Ian Johnston, and naval historian and author, Cmdr. David Hobbs MBE RN.
Tomorrow evening, both speakers will host an open forum, before the showing of two short films by Peter Rowlands and John Findlay. The films feature an interview with wartime diver, Sandy Robertson, and underwater footage of HMS Royal Oak.
All events take place at 7pm, in the King Street Halls.
The programme, HMS Royal Oak — 100 Years, is presented by Another Orkney Production, and supported by Orkney Islands Council, Pentland Ferries and The Herald Printshop.
