Hospital planning permission granted

Councillors have granted planning permission in principal for Orkney’s new hospital.

The new healthcare facility and associated infrastructure is earmarked for land near New Scapa Road.

There were nine letters of objection from residents of Scapa Court, principally on the grounds of loss of amenity and contravention of the Orkney Local Development Plan, (OLDP).

However, members heard that the hospital met the OLDP and national planning policy aspirations for improved community health care facilities to serve Orkney in the future.
