Hoy Head upgrade moves forward

The proposed lengthening of the mv Hoy Head moved a step closer yesterday, Wednesday.

At a special meeting of the Orkney Islands Council policy and resources committee  councillors heard an update on the proposed project.

The committee recommended that the final project – which will increase vehicle capacity, involve an upgrade of the propulsion and control systems, and considerably improve the manoeuvrability and carbon footprint of the vessel –  be approved.

The council will also be approaching the Scottish Government for funding as the project forms part of the vessel replacement programme.

The recommendations will be considered at the OIC’s special general meeting on Monday, June 11.
