Inter-island transport events – call in and share your views
A series of drop-in events in the North and South Isles will give residents the chance help shape the way ferry and air links are provided in future.
These get under way tomorrow, Monday, and are an important part of an Inter-Island Transport Study, commissioned by Orkney Islands Council, and carried out by consultants Peter Brett Associates LLP.
The aim of the study is to set out a long-term strategy for future transport connections for the isles. It is being funded by the Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, HITRANS and Transport Scotland.
Councillor James Stockan, chairman of the OIC’s development and infrastructure committee, said: “I would encourage isles residents to get actively engaged in this process by coming along to the events and sharing their views and ideas.
“Getting this right is of crucial importance for current and future generations of folk in the North and South Isles. The findings of this study will shape the way inter-island air and ferry services are delivered in the years ahead.”
Dates and times for the drop-in sessions meetings are available at http://www.orkney.gov.uk/Service-Directory/T/inter-island.htm
