Kirkwall Lifeboat called out
Kirkwall Lifeboat was called out in thick fog last night to transport a man requiring medical attention from Sanday into Kirkwall.
According to Kirkwall RNLI the air ambulance was unable to land on the island due to the fog.
The lifeboat Margaret Foster was called in to carry out the transfer, departing Kirkwall at 6.50pm with coxswain Fraser Retson and five volunteer crew aboard, along with local doctor Mhairi Linklater.
On arrival at Loth Pier in Sanday the patient and his wife were transferred to the lifeboat, with the patient then transferred to a waiting ambulance on arrival in Kirkwall.
This was the eighth launch for the lifeboat this year.
