Kirkwall set for broadband boost
Kirkwall looks set to benefit from a new high-speed communications network expansion by BT.
The town is one of nine locations in Scotland which will be the next to benefit from upgrades to BT’s Ethernet technology, due to be completed by spring, 2012.
The upgrade is designed to save businesses, shops, schools and other organisations in Scotland time and money.
A BT spokesman said that the technology allows medium-sized businesses and other organisations to opt for the guaranteed broadband speed of their choice over their own dedicated line.
The technology is already live in more than 90 locations in Scotland.
