Land managers’ responsibilities during muirburning season
Following recent incidents throughout the Highlands and Islands, police and the fire service are calling on landowners to ensure any muirburn activity is carried out in a responsible and safe manner.
The muirburning season has already started and landowners are being asked to remember three things before taking part in any such exercise:
- Always inform the Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service (HIFRS) prior to, and on the completion of, muirburning
- Ensure there are enough people to control the fire
- Make sure fires are extinguished before leaving the scene
To notify HIFRS before and after muirburning activity, call (01463) 240999.
