It was no “teddy bear’s picnic” when it came to reuniting a lost cuddly toy with its four-year-old Orcadian owner this week!

But after the little girl’s mother made a plea on social media for help, airline Loganair stepped in to ensure “Teddy” made it home.

Donna and her daughter, Summer, were flying back to Kirkwall via Edinburgh Airport on Monday when Teddy was lost while going through airport security.

The West Mainland mum, who asked not to share their surname publicly, said teddy turned up in the lost property section of the airport, but explained it was going to cost £50 to have him posted back home.

So, knowing how desperate Summer was to have him back she appealed for anyone who may be travelling through Edinburgh Airport to pick up teddy for them.

Donna explained: “At that point I took to social media and knew the goodwill and community spirit of Orkney would save the day! I posted on Facebook and within minutes I was inundated with messages of help from the people of Orkney. I was totally overwhelmed! Then Kirsty Walter, cabin crew for Loganair, messaged me to say she was on the evening flight on Wednesday and would be happy to help!”

Teddy was shown lots of “TLC (teddy loving care)” on board the flight to Kirkwall where he enjoyed a tour of the cockpit and was treated to an on board snack!

Kay Ryan, Commercial Director at Loganair said: “Whenever our team was made aware of the grizzly situation, we knew there could be ‘panda’monium if we didn’t help. Our cabin crew team quickly tracked down the bear and arranged for him to be on the next service up to Orkney.

“It was wonderful to see Teddy back in the company of Summer and we’re pleased to have played a role. Loganair prides itself on bringing everyone, including Teddy, home for Christmas.”

Donna thanked those involved, saying: “Loganair have been fantastic and totally got what this was all about. A little girl of four had lost her teddy at the airport and he was found but we couldn’t get him back without paying an extortionate amount of £50 and Loganair had seen this and stepped in to save the day!”
