Lyness Museum redevelopment proposals on display today
Proposals for the redevelopment of the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre will go on display at the Lyness museum today, Monday.
The proposals include additional display areas, a shop and café and improved visitor facilities. Work will also be carried out to make improvements to the environmental conditions within the building to ensure the continued preservation of the artefacts.
The museum will be open late on Thursday, when the OIC’s museums team will be on hand, until 7pm, to chat to folk about the concepts on display. The plans will be on show until the museum closes for the season on Monday, October 31.
Clare Gee, the OIC’s arts, museums and heritage service manager, said it was vital that the collection of wartime artefacts is well-looked after.
“The Lyness museum buildings have been deteriorating for some time, and urgently need restoration and conservation. The restoration will ensure the future of the collections and support the local community in Hoy, which relies on the centre to attract visitors to the island.”
The proposals can also be seen, and feedback provided, at OIC Customer Services in Kirkwall and the Warehouse Buildings in Stromness.
