Man dies after cliff fall
A man has died after falling from cliffs at The Gloup in Deerness.
At around 1.30pm this afternoon, the emergency services, including coastguard rescue teams, the Kirkwall RNLI lifeboat and the HM Coastguard helicopter were called to the scene.
The casualty was found to be lying at the bottom of the cliff before being winched to the top to waiting medical teams.
The casualty was taken to Balfour Hospital but he later died as a result of his injuries.
Police are working to establish the full circumstances of events and are keen to hear from any witnesses to the incident who have not already spoken to police.
There are no suspicious circumstances evident at this time, however a report will be submitted to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
The individual’s next of kin have been informed, however further details will not be released until further family members are aware.
