Fatal road accident outside Finstown

A 36-year-old man died as a result of the two-vehicle collision outside Finstown.

The accident happened just after 5pm, approximately one mile east of Finstown. Police, Fire and Rescue Services and Scottish Ambulance Service were in attendance at the scene.

The occupants of the second vehicle –  two adults and two young children –  were taken to Kirkwall’s Balfour Hospital and later discharged with minor injuries.

The immediate family of the deceased driver, who was the sole occupant of his vehicle, have been informed.

Police in Orkney would like to hear from anyone using this road at the time who may have seen the accident and would urge any witnesses to contact them on the 101 non emergency number.
