Marinas enjoy record year

Record numbers of visiting yachts chose Orkney as their destination during 2013, according to figures released by Orkney Marinas this week.

A total of 745 visiting boats arrived in Orkney from as far afield as the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

This years result is a welcome return to a growing trend following a quiet season in 2012, blamed mainly on the poor summer weather, although other factors may have caused the sharp drop to 467 yachts from the previous high in 2011 of 626.
