MSYP candidates on film
Orkney’s five prospective members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) have featured in a short promotional film setting out their manifestos, in preparation for voting which opens today.
Thorfinn Moffat, Samuel Murray, Ewan Loudon, Hamish Auskerry and Iona Torbet are all hoping to become one of Orkney’s next two Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament.
The film, featuring a soundtrack written and performed by Stromness Academy pupils Aidan Morrison and Halina Romaniszyn, is available to view on the council’s website.
Community learning and development officer, Walter Gorman, explained: “Copies of the film have been sent, on DVD, out to the isles so that young folk there also have the opportunity to listen to what each candidate has to offer before casting their vote.”
All those aged between 12 and 25 in Orkney will be eligible to vote in the election which will be carried out online at www.syp.org.uk/elections.
Polling stations are also being set up in Kirkwall Grammar School, Stromness Academy and Orkney College. A computer station has also been made available at the One Stop Shop.
Voters should have their Young Scot card at the ready, as they’ll need to use the registration number printed on it to take part.
The vote runs until March 14, and the results will be announced in the OIC chamber on Friday, March 15, between 4pm and 5.30pm.
