Nacreous clouds over Stenness
Jenny McElroy, from Stenness, sent us these shots of nacreous clouds over Stenness, taken yesterday morning, Monday.
Nacreous clouds – or mother-of-pearl clouds, are a rare atmospheric phenomenon, usually seen during winter in Scandinavia, Iceland and Canada.
Usually seen after sunset or before dawn, they are generally described as “unbelievably bright with vivid and slowly shifting iridescent colours.”
There were a number of sighting across the UK yesterday.
