Name proposed for new hospital

NHS Orkney is proposing that the name of the new hospital and healthcare facility currently under construction in Kirkwall, and due to open in late summer 2019, will be ‘The Balfour’.

The proposal reflects the very real affection for the name Balfour expressed by both members of the public and staff — the name has also been associated with healthcare buildings in Orkney for many generations.

NHS Orkney is asking for the public’s views and there is an opportunity to comment on the proposed name from Monday, February 12, to Friday, March 2.

The name of the new hospital and healthcare facilities will be confirmed by the NHS Orkney Board at its meeting in April.
