New look for Fossil and Heritage Centre
Big changes have been happening at the Orkney Fossil and Heritage Centre, in Burray, over the winter.
Last night, Friday, saw the official opening of the new fossil galleries and the Scapa Flow Landscape Partnership’s Building the Barriers exhibition
Thanks to grants from the Scottish Government/European Community Orkney Leader Programme 2007-2013 and the OIC Community Development Fund, the Fossil Centre has been able to create a new gallery overlooking Scapa Flow, which will house the Building the Barriers exhibit.
Chairman of the Fossil Centre trustees, John Flett Brown, is keen for local people to come and see for themselves: “This is a really exciting venture for the Fossil and Heritage Centre, and I hope people who haven’t been along for a good few years will pay us a visit this summer and see what’s been done.
“For a small visitor centre, run by volunteers, it’s a major achievement, and we hope it will get good local support.”
