New Scottish Drama champions crowned in Orkney
Kirkintilloch Players were declared overall winners at the Scottish Final of the SCDA’s One Act Play competition tonight, in the Orkney Theatre.
Kirkton Players took second place, while third place went to last year’s British champions, Fintry ADS. Orkney’s own Palace Players — who were the final team to take to the stage with their production of Frank Gibbon’s Baby Sparklers — were presented with the Donald T. Farmer Trophy, for Best Theatrical Moment.
The prestigious event, which has never before been hosted in Orkney, kicked off on Thursday, and came to an end with the final presentations tonight. Scottish actor, and honorary SCDA president, Richard Wilson made a special trip to Orkney for the event, and had high praise for the local hospitality, and the Orkney Theatre.
SCDA chairman, Gordon Hibbert said that while there had been challenges involved in bringing the Scottish Finals to Orkney, it has been a very successful festival. He went on to thank all who had made the trip to Orkney, as well as local supporters of the SCDA.
