New tenants in Dounby council houses
New tenants have been settling into four new Orkney Islands Council homes in Dounby — part of the ongoing house building programme in the county.
The homes are split into two semi-detached blocks, “Swartland View” (two two-bedroom homes) and “Greeny View” (two three-bedroom homes).
The names for the new blocks were put forward by Dounby Primary and chosen by the Birsay Community Council.
The OIC was awarded grants worth a total of £2 million from the Scottish Government in 2009 from the Kickstart programme (now Incentivising Council House Build) towards building 140 new homes in the county between 2009 and 2012.
