New vice-chairman for OIC education and housing committee

North Isles councillor Stephen Clackson has been elected as vice-chairman of the OIC education, leisure and housing committee by the narrowest of margins.

He was nominated by council vice-convener Councillor Jim Foubister and was seconded by Councillor John Richards.

However, Councillor Rob Crichton nominated Councillor Gwenda Shearer and was backed by former committee chairwoman Councillor Janice Annal.

The vote went down to the wire and stood at five each before the eleventh and final vote was read out in favour of Councillor Clackson.

He was duly elected by six votes to five.

Councillor Harvey Johnston continues in his role as chairman of the committee.
