NHS Orkney go blue-lipped for cancer awareness
Members of staff from NHS Orkney Public Dental Service team have already been out and about sporting blue lips this month to raise awareness of the symptoms of mouth cancer and are appealing to other to help spread the awareness-raising message.
As part of the campaign, the group joined forces with staff at Tesco, last Wednesday, to show off their blue lips and encourage shoppers to be aware of the importance of spotting potential signs of mouth cancer as early as possible.
More than 500 leaflets were given out to customers at Tesco urging people to be MOUTH AWARE and look out for any changes in the mouth. The Team were also out again this Monday at Orkney Auction Mart.
“Anyone concerned about any changes in their mouth is encouraged to make an appointment and get it examined,” said Nigel Pendrey, Senior Dental Officer.
“No-one will think you are wasting their time if you want to get an area of concern in your mouth checked. Early detection is absolutely the key so if you are concerned please get checked out.”
If you want to get involved, you can get your blue face paints or lipstick out and share a blue lip selfie with NHS Orkney by sending your pictures to ork-hb.oralhealth@nhs.net.
