‘No suspicious circumstances’ in Ayre Road incident

Police have released an updated statement on the incident which resulted in part of Kirkwall being sealed off on Sunday.

Police described the incident as a “medical matter” on the Ayre Road.

Released last night, the statement said: “At around 5:50am this morning, Sunday, police in Kirkwall received a report regarding concern for a woman on Ayre Road in the town centre.

“The woman was initially taken to Balfour Hospital before being transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where she currently remains in the care of hospital staff.

“Following a full investigation by local officers, it can be confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances and no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.”
