OIC advice on night time catering licences
Orkney businesses are being advised to consider whether a change to regulations means they may require a late hours catering licence.
A licence is currently required if businesses provide “meals or refreshment” to the public between 11pm and 5am.
From the start of October the regulations will cover the sale of any kind of food.
This means that in addition to catering outlets, retailers with late opening hours need to check if they need a licence from October 1.
Businesses trading between 11pm and 5am under an alcohol licence for their premises do not require a late hours catering licence as well.
Further information is available on the OIC website or by contacting one of the council’s legal clerks on 873535.
