OIC trading standards warns against scam emails
The trading standards team at Orkney Islands Council is warning folk in the county to watch out for bogus emails, appearing to be from local organisations.
According to the council, scam emails appearing to be from the Picky Centre and Visit Scotland have been sent out within the past week. The emails claim that the recipient has an unpaid invoice and has a hyperlink to open for more details. The hyperlink has no connection to the alleged sender and may contain malware or other information useful to scammers.
Trading Standards Manager, Gary Foubister, warns: “some of the email addresses being used in the scam include the name of the local organisation so could appear plausible. The public should be aware that if two local organisations are being falsely presented there may be others so carefully check any emails received.”
