Olympic Torch visits Orkney
The Orkney public lined the streets of Kirkwall this morning to catch a glimpse of the Olympic Flame.
Arriving by plane, just before 8.30am the flame was transported from the airport to St Magnus Cathedral — where the Torch Relay began.
Prominent sporting figure, Inga Kemp, was the first to carry the torch, proudly setting off down Broad Street and into Albert Street, before handing the flame over to Benjamin Nicolson.
The 18 local torchbearers were cheered on throughout by spectators.
The relay continued around Kirkwall, until William Sichel completed the last leg and lit the Orkney Cauldron, situated at the Pickaquoy Centre Athletics Track.
A free-open air concert was then held, featuring local musicians and premiering the specially commissioned Olympics song, partly written by Papdale Primary School pupils.
