Orkney are Island Games Hockey Champions

Orkney have won the Hockey Island Games in Jersey this afternoon after beating the hosts on penalty flicks. In a pulsating final, the game ended at 2-2 with both goals coming from the stick of Claire Irvine but neither side could force a winner. In a nervy finale, penalty flicks decided the winner and it was the Orkney Ladies who held their nerve, with Claire Irvine scoring the winning penalty to beat Jersey 5-4.

In what has been a fantastic tournament for the Orkney Ladies, they beat defending champions, Isle of Man 2-0 in the opening match but lost their next match against Jersey 3-1. However, they bounced back to beat Guernsey 4-2 to set up the final match against Jersey.
