Orkney Area Commander retires
Police Scotland’ s Area Commander for Orkney, chief inspector Les Donaldson performed his final formal duty with the police service this afternoon, marking the winding up of a career spanning almost 30 years.
Following today’s meeting of the Orkney Islands Council’s police and fire subcommittee, Ch Insp Donaldson will be retiring later this week, with Orkney-based inspector, Gordon Deans, temporarily taking on the role of Chief Inspector while Police Scotland find a more permanent successor.
Brought up in Orkney, Les joined Northern Constabulary in 1985. He served as Area Commander for Orkney since 2011, having served as Inspector since 2009.
