Orkney brothers prepare for plum Scottish Cup tie versus Kilmarnock
Two Orkney brothers are preparing for the biggest football match of their lives this weekend, as Brora Rangers take on Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup.
James and John Pickles, from Rendall, are set to be part of the Rangers squad for the match in Ayrshire on Saturday, as Highland League side Brora look to cause one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s 145-year history.
Heavy favourites Killie will approach the tie full of confidence after beating Celtic last weekend, and under the tutelage of former Chelsea assistant and West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke, who has been linked to the vacant Scotland job, have impressed in Scotland’s top flight.
Five supporters buses, in addition to others travelling by car, are set to make the journey south from Brora, making it a day the club will never forget.
John, a right-back, has been with the club since 2015 and has cemented himself as a key part of the squad. Older brother James, having spent five years with fellow Highland League club Wick Academy, has recently joined the club following a spell with Orkney FC.
The match is scheduled to kick-off at 3pm.
