Orkney conference explores equalities issues
A conference on Thursday aims to explore a range of equalities issues.
Frazer Campbell, the chairman of the Orkney Equality Forum, which is running the event, explained: “We are delighted to welcome participants and a group of quality speakers to the Picky Centre to address some really important topics.”
The event, which is funded by the Council’s Culture Fund, will see Euan Page from the Equality and Human Rights Commission talk about reasonable adjustments which can be made for people with disabilities and Alana Atkinson from Choose Life discussing mental health issues.
“We also have Catherine Somerville here from Stonewall Scotland covering bullying and hate crime, while Pam Roebuck from the Blide Trust will talk about her experiences of discrimination.
“The intention is to raise awareness, to share knowledge and understanding of local and national issues, and to challenge discrimination and assumptions.
“I hope too, that in the longer term our event will encourage people to talk about these, often very sensitive, issues and how they impact on our lives – as individuals and as a community.”
