Orkney escapes the worst of Storm Abigail
Orkney appears to have escaped the worst of Storm Abigail, with no reports of major damage or power outages in the county.
According to Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD), its network held up well, although there was a spate of power cuts resulting in over 30 high voltage faults across the Western Isles, Skye, Colonsay, Argyll and Angus.
According to Kirkwall Airport, the peak wind speed recorded by the Met Office was a 61mph gust, at 2am this morning, with a mean wind speed of 40mph.
