An Orkney farmer has scooped both the champion and reserve champion titles at Aberdeen and Northern marts sale of Aberdeen Angus, Shorthorn and native breeds at the Thainstone Centre, in Inverurie, this week.

Alistair Foubister, who farms at Netherton in Holm, took the top prize for a 20-month-old 600kg bullock and reserve for a 17-month-old 550kg bullock, at the event, which was held on Tuesday and featured 474 Aberdeen Angus and Native breed sired store cattle.

Both were sold to Davie Buchan, Savoch, Longside — the champion for £1,450 and the reserve for £1,480.

The competition was judged by Mr Alan Hasting, Beoch, Stranraer. The event is sponsored by the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society.

A & A Foubister also claimed first prize for their pen of four bullock and pair of bullocks.

John Angus, Store and Breeding Cattle Manager at Aberdeen & Northern Marts, said: “An excellent show, including 266 cattle from Orkney, was forward making for a great sale. All cattle were very easily sold here at Thainstone today.”
