Orkney is Scotland’s best place to live

Orkney has been named as the top place in Scotland to live in an annual survey, for the third year running.

The Halifax Quality of Life Survey scores areas in Britain using categories such as personal well-being, employment, resident’s health and life expectancy, low crime rate and good weather.

Notably, Orkney had the lowest burglary rate per 10,000 population for the whole of the UK, with 5.1 per 10,000 people.

The north-east Hampshire district of Hart topped the list overall, for the fifth year running. In the overall standings for the UK, Orkney placed 83rd, dropping from 47th place last year.
